State-of-the-Art Training Center

Lacks is excited to announce its plan to break ground in 2015 for a brand new, state-of-the art Training Center. The Training Center will provide classroom and hands-on training to all employees, from the Assembler who’s learning the in’s and out’s of her job to the Manager looking to further develop his leadership skills. The Training Center will also boast a highly innovative and customized Industrial Technology Lab where we’ll be able to offer hands-on, real time training to our Technicians and Skilled Trades employees so that they may acquire the knowledge and experience needed to move our organization forward.


Certified Basic Job Skills Trainers

Every facility at Lacks utilizes certified Full Time and Part Time Basic Job Skills Trainers for entry-level Operator training. Our Trainers are selected through a comprehensive application and interview process. Upon selection, Trainers are required to complete a rigorous 22-hour certification course in order to become qualified to conduct entry-level Basic Job Skills training. Many of Lacks’ facilities utilize Full Time Trainers, individuals that are dedicated to job skills training on a full time basis.


Supervisor Development Program

On an annual basis, Lacks provides select supervisor-to-be candidates with a second-to-none developmental opportunity. This program begins with a highly competitive and demanding selection process that begins with submission of an application packet and an interview with the candidate’s Plant Manager and Human Resources Generalist. If selected to move forward, candidates are required to go through a rotational interview process with key operational and business leaders within the organization. Candidates that are selected for this program agree to commit to a 36 week program that combines classroom training with experiential, hands-on learning. Candidates are rotated through a number of facilities and processes throughout the program in order to further develop their overall supervisory capabilities and knowledge of the business. At the end of this 36-week program, approximately 95% of the candidates will be placed in a leadership or supervisory position.


Outstanding Safety Training Initiatives

At Lacks, we are committed to protecting our most valuable resource — OUR PEOPLE! As a leader in our industry and community, we are deeply committed to employee health and safety training programs and have been recognized by the State of Michigan for our outstanding efforts in this important area.


Facility Training Centers

Our latest initiative in job skills training is the development and implementation of facility-specific training centers. Our training centers allow our Trainers to provide entry-level training to new Operators before the Operator “hits the floor.” New Operators are able to learn about and practice many of the skills required for their positions. In addition, Trainers are able to provide additional continued job skills training to Operators through the use of online and computer-based training aides.


Apprenticeship Programs

At Lacks, we facilitate and support exceptional Apprenticeship Programs designed to prepare our skilled trades employees for the requirements and demands of their jobs. Our relationship with area colleges and universities is an integral part of our success and, through those relationships, we’ve identified high quality programs that support the education sought after by our apprentices. Lacks will cover the cost of classroom training as well as work with our plant management to provide our apprentices with the experiential component required to complete the program. Such programs include Electrical Journeyman, Molding Technician, and Machine Repair.
